King's Award

The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest recognition given to local volunteer groups across the United Kingdom. Administered by the UK government, the award celebrates outstanding community service delivered by volunteer-led organizations. It acknowledges groups that demonstrate exceptional impact, strong governance, and long-term commitment to improving their communities. Often regarded as the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups, the award highlights and promotes excellence in grassroots voluntary work throughout the UK.

VSS

Victims and Survivors Service (VSS) is a publicly funded support organization that provides health and wellbeing services to individuals affected by the Troubles and conflict in Northern Ireland. The organization offers trauma-informed support, needs assessments, caseworker guidance, funding assistance, and access to community partners. VSS focuses on improving mental health, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life for victims and survivors through structured support pathways, advocacy, and collaborative service delivery.

Lottery Community Fund

The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest community funder in the United Kingdom, distributing National Lottery funding to support grassroots projects and local organizations. The fund invests in initiatives that strengthen communities, reduce poverty and inequality, improve health and wellbeing, support children and young people, and promote environmental sustainability. Through accessible funding programmes and practical guidance, it helps community-led projects create lasting social impact across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Veterans Foundation

Is a UK charity that focuses on providing grants to organisations supporting active service members, veterans, and their families. The majority of its funding comes from the Veterans Lottery and public donations. They seek to help local projects that are tackling important issues like mental health, homelessness, welfare support, rehabilitation, and community integration. Since it began, the Foundation has handed out millions of pounds to hundreds of charities and community groups throughout the UK, making a real difference in the lives of those who’ve served.

Armed Forces Covenant

This Covenant is a formal pledge by the UK government, businesses, and organisations to ensure that serving personnel, veterans, and their families are not disadvantaged in accessing employment, housing, healthcare, or public services because of their military service. Enshrined in law through the Armed Forces Acts of 2011 and 2021, it calls on employers, councils, and charities to offer practical support and fair treatment. Organisations that sign up and demonstrate genuine commitment can earn bronze, silver, or gold recognition.

Halifax

It is an independent grant-making charity that has been funding voluntary and community organisations across Northern Ireland since 1987. Supported by Lloyds Banking Group, it distributes grants to groups working in areas such as disability, disadvantage, and community development, with a particular focus on smaller organisations that often struggle to access mainstream funding. Over the decades, it has awarded millions of pounds to hundreds of groups, making a quiet but significant difference to communities that need it most.

Mid-Ulster Council

Being one of Northern Ireland’s eleven local councils, it covers a large rural and urban area stretching from Magherafelt to Cookstown and Dungannon. Beyond its core civic responsibilities, the Council actively supports community and voluntary organisations through a range of funding programmes, including grants for community development, arts and culture, sport, and good relations initiatives. It also administers elements of larger funding streams on behalf of the central government.

CWSAN

Cookstown and Western Shores Area Network is a community umbrella organisation formed in 1996 to represent and support rural community groups across the Cookstown district and along the western shores of Lough Neagh. Since 2014, it has partnered with COSTA to extend coverage across the full Mid-Ulster District Council area, with an outreach office also based in Magherafelt. CWSAN provides member groups with practical support, including training, facilitation, funding information, consultation, and networking, making it a vital grassroots resource for rural communities throughout Mid-Ulster.
